Mechanical Engineer (Level 1, 2 or 3)

Sugarpine Engineering is a growing MEP engineering and consulting firm working in many sectors and diversified project types.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have an ABET accredited bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, and some professional experience (1-4 years). A candidate with less/no experience may be considered if you can demonstrate excellence and motivation.

Primary location: Truckee, CA or Reno, NV. Flexible work arrangement within the geographical area could be an option for an exceptional candidate with more experience. Let’s talk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design: Use AutoCAD and Revit to produce designs. Work under the supervision of a Senior Mechanical Engineer.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues to ensure project requirements and expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Research and Innovation: Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices to bring innovative solutions to the company.
  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed engineering calculations, notes, and drawings.
  • Some travel and assistance to the leadership team as necessary.
Travel Required
  • Customary daily commute to the primary location.
  • Travel within and to California, Nevada, and other locations for training, construction site visits, and meetings.
  • Travel by air and road. Ability to arrange your own travel, rent a car, take transit or ridesharing, taxi, flights, hotel, etc.
  • Some construction sites are in rural non-urban locations without transit.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for most travel due to project locations.
Mandatory Qualifications
  • Education: ABET accredited bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (BSME).
  • Technical Skills: Basic knowledge or exposure to CAD/design software and tools. Experience with MS Office and other relevant production software. Proficiency with English technical grammar for prompting AI systems.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Hey, it’s engineering.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, including in-person, hybrid, and remotely.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to obtain Fundamentals of Engineering (FE/EIT) certification within the first year.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE/EIT) certification.
  • Experience or training in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Experience with sustainable and green building, energy modeling, solar, EVs.
  • Knowledge and experience related to the construction or utilities industries.
Bonus Certifications
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • LEED AP
  • PSMJ or similar AE industry training
Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $80,000 to $130,000, depending on experience, certifications, skill, relevant coursework. We offer reimbursement for health insurance, a matching retirement plan, flexible PTO, 11 holidays, career growth, multidisciplinary experience, and professional development opportunities.
